How to Draw Comics - Head Proportions and Features - Video Tutorial

In this video I explain how to draw a comic book style head and how to measure out where you facial features go. It is a simple and easy to follow system that I have used for years to draw all of my characters. After a while you will feel like you don't need to do this but when you drawings begin to suffer you can always go back to the basics. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I always do my best to respond.

Good luck to you with your art and thanks for stopping by!

Working on some New Tutorials!!

Hello everyone!

I would have posted sooner but I have been one busy little bee. Trying to get Storyboards done for clients and the occasional freelance art job leaves me with little time. And I am still getting used to being a dad! Did I mention I also run a signs business? Whewwww. Time for a vacation me thinks. :)

Anyways, here is the update that I wanted to share for anyone who cares. As you may or may not know I upload at least one video per week on my Youtube channel. Although I don't make much cash from it. ( Enough to pay my cell phone bill, so that is cool. ) But, the real potential of my channel is connecting will other artists, fans for the comic book BLACKSTONE ( did I write that big enough?? ), and even the occasional business deal. Mainly in a word…..Exposure! I am up to over 2000 views per day so that gains me the occasional illustration job and once and a while a book sale on Indyplanet. So I am pretty happy with those results.

Did I mention you can get Blackstone here….  http://RamStudiosComics.indyplanet.com/

I don't really need the money. Well, yes I need the money but that isn't why I do it. I enjoy teaching and sharing techniques that I have acquired. It feels right. As an artist I will need to look over someones shoulder from time to time to grow my perspective. Nothing worse than someone who doesn't want to share their P R E C I O U S. ( Said in a scary Gollum voice. ) Little fact of life, you get what you give. Simple as that. That is why if you work hard enough you gain success. Maybe not as quick as you would like but it happens.

So another great thing that has developed from my Youtube exposure has been tutorial deals. People have seen the videos that I create and are now offering me deals to work with them creating content. I am very excited to do so because it allows me to share with other artist and to make a living for my family. Two birds one stone kinda thingy. So I will keep you posted as some of these projects are released and you can support if you like. If you cannot afford them, I will continue to keep making Youtube videos that are free for you to watch. Just share them every now and then so I can one day not only pay my cell phone bill but also buy my family a cheeseburger. ( Did that sound desperate? Sorry.. :) I am kidding, it does help me to progress the channel though.

One site that I have already worked for is www.anatomycurves.com  so be sure to check them out and there is even a free download of the art that I did if you would like a copy of it. We always appreciate the continued support!

I will keep you posted on the new courses that are coming out. I want to make sure everything goes smoothly before I open my mouth any wider!

Thanks for reading my babble and see ya soon!

Returning to 3D Art by Robert Marzullo

Hello fellow artist and creative types.  I have some exciting news.  I am finally returning to 3D Art.  I was a Lightwave guy back in 2002-2005.  I had some mild success with my endeavors.  I made some animations for local TV spots and even won a few Addy Awards.  I quit working with the local ad agency to focus on my sign business but I always had some regret about no longer working in 3D.  At the time my finances were limited so I couldn't justify the cost of buying a software that I may not make much money with on my own.

So now to the present.  I have purchased Lightwave and Zbrush and I am ready to jump in head first.  I am super excited to see what I can produce.  I am relearning Lightwave and Zbrush is a new monster but very intuitive so I think I should be up and running in no time. ( Hopefully! )

And that is why I am sharing this here with you.  I want to share this adventure with you all!  It may appear that I am heading in another direction from just illustrating my comic book Blackstone but in all reality this is a push in that direction.  I always knew that my character would best be displayed in a 3D environment.  I mean where else can a shiny black alien with a pile of tentacles attached to his back look so cool.  Zbrush is going to allow me to create  Blackstone in full detail.  Lightwave will be the movie set in which he animates and comes to life.   In fact, I plan on creating most of the cast to the Blackstone Eternal Comic.  It will not only give me great references to drawing the book but then when I pitch the movie idea at Spielberg I will have the models to better present my concept.  Ok, I admit that I may be shooting for the preverbial stars.  But no one ever gets anywhere by aiming half way.  At the very least the 3D models can be used in the Blackstone video game! :)

So there it is.  That is what I am up to.  I will start posting more of my 3D work as I feel it is up to snuff.  I may also do the occasional tutorial on my Youtube channel to help people figure out some of the roadblocks that I am about to try to overcome.  And if you are a comic book nerd like me but you have a passion for 3D then feel free to share your comments too.

Art is a collective process and only through the belief of that concept can we achieve the next level in our mental capacity.  Does that even make sense?  Oh well, it sounded pretty neat in my head. lol

So more on the way real soon and as always, thanks for watching and reading!
