Teaching Art Lessons Online with Udemy and Gumroad - My Thoughts on This Experience

As you may or may not know, I am a Storyboard and Comic Book illustrator. I enjoy creating images for nearly anything I can get my hands on. I recently needed to fill some gaps in my work schedule so I started teaching online. I started with lots and lots of Youtube videos and got my feet wet in the process. After some time doing that I was approached by Tuts Plus by Envato to start recording video lessons in Sketchbook Pro and Photoshop. Then after that ran it course and I started to feel the need to keep going I looked around for other platforms. I now teach on Udemy and launched my own lessons on Gumroad. You can view my page here - http://www.gumroad.com/robertmarzullo
I now have lessons on How to Improve Your Figure Drawing - How to Digitally Paint in Manga Studio 5 and so on. I even make custom brushes to help other artists create their work. It has been an extremely rewarding process and I am excited for what the future will bring. I am always an artist first and a teacher second but it does come with the added benefit of helping my fellow artists grow their skills. Which feels pretty cool!

I just wanted to share this in case you are someone that is thinking about how to fill up your own schedule and create other sources of income. Teaching online is a great way to do that and helps you to further grow your audience and establish yourself as a professional in the industry. And you get to work in your pajamas, so that is pretty nice also! ;)
I am working on a new course now so if you like them there are more on the way! And let me also say that when you purchase any of my digital products I am here to help and to listen.  If you experience any problems or have questions then feel free to reach out and I will do my very best to help.  I also like to get feedback so that I can continually improve my lessons.  Thank you for stopping by and good luck with your art journey.

Udemy Discount Codes on my Drawing Courses

Here are some discount codes for my Udemy Courses.  For a limited time you can get access to my figure drawing course on the Udemy platform for 50% Off

This is a basic approach to Figure Drawing for comics. This entire tutorial is 3.5 hours. I share techniques that I have used over the years to create comic book illustrations and storyboards for television. You will learn how to systematically break down the various parts of the body into simpler shapes.  As I illustrate each area step by step you will follow along and learn from my studies. This will give you insight into how I create my artwork and create poses from the mind. I also share what techniques I use to improve my knowledge of the human form. Things like gesture drawings, timed studies of the pose, negative space drawing, foreshortening, perspective, organic versus angular lines, and much more. You will also be given a copy of the art files that I have created here so that you can work along and study from them. By the end of this course you should be more confident in constructing your figure drawings from the mind and have a better understanding of the human form.
The tips and tricks from this course will make the process of drawing complex body poses much easier to accomplish. Good luck with your art!

Hello Gumroad!

Well I went and jumped on the Gumroad bandwagon!  I have been looking for a way to get more of my digital work out to some fans without signing my life away in that process and Gumroad seems to have a pretty nice setup so time will tell.  I have already made the Blackstone comic available there for download and next I will be uploading a course on "Digital Painting in Manga Studio 5 EX."  Or Clip Studio Paint Pro.  Not sure why they had to switch the name but oh well.  It is what it is......whatever that means.  I will also be including my custom brushes on there as well as some of my art.  It hopefully will be a way that I can keep producing content for those of you that really enjoy it and make a living at this art thingy that I love to do so much.  I see that other artist have been able to keep putting out their work with the help of this platform so I am giving it a try.

Let me know what you think of Gumroad and what you would like to see me put on there.  I am putting a lot of work into the content that I will be posting on there.  This video set will explain lots of techniques in Manga Studio for digital painting and scene creation.  It will start with basic conceptual elements and weapons then we will move onto character creation rules of composition.  So I hope this helps a lot of artist like me that were initially lost in this program.  And for artist that don't want to fork out the big bucks for Photoshop and Corel Painter.  By the way, I think Manga Studio has them beat and no one seems to realize it. Very strange indeed.

Thanks for stopping by any more on the way real soon!

Here is the link to my newly created Gumroad page...Wish me luck! ;)
