Drawing Comic Style Art - Wacom Intuos Tablet - Narrated

In this video I am using a Wacom Intuos 4 Tablet to pencil, ink, and color this Hulk FanArt. I talk about the benefits of using this type of device compared to the more expensive units such as the Cintiq and iPad Pro. You can accomplish everything you want with the more affordable devices with practice and patience.

This artwork is created with Manga Studio 5 / Clip Studio Paint which also works very well with this type of device. I have more videos on the use of that program on my channel as well! ;)

How to Make Custom Brushes in Manga Studio 5 - Clip Studio Paint

How to Make a Custom Brush in Manga Studio 5                  Clip Studio Paint

Custom Brushes in Manga Studio 5 Image Alien Metal

I have been asked many times how I create custom brushes in this program so here it is. The software is a lot like Photoshop in the way that the brushes work but the interface is very different. Like anything else you just have to snoop around and find what goes where. One of the neat things about the brushes in Manga Studio 5 is that you can apply color to them as they are being applied. And not just one color but you can control the two colors that go into the design. That makes for some very interesting effects. Like the illustration above I was able to apple the blue of the steel along with the black of the inner shadows at the same time. ( Illustration on the left ) And the one on the right was similar but I applied the green glow as a post processing effect by drawing it in with a layer set to "Color Dodge."

These brushes were created using the ribbon effect in Manga Studio and if is very impressive once you get the hang of it.  Things like chains, rope, braids, alien tech metal spine looking thingies, whatever you can dream up becomes a lot easier to create. You spend some initial time creating the brush but after that you will save tons of time so it is well worth the effort.

If you want to know more then watch this video tutorial where I narrate the process step by step. If you have any questions or requests then feel free to ask. I am here to help! :)

How to Draw Eyes - Male Vs Female - Step by Step

In this video I talk to you about how to draw eyes for both your male and female characters.
I show you a few of my techniques for sketching and refining the eye shapes. How to spot flaws in the symmetry and fix them and so on.  This lesson was in response to a request so be sure to let me know what video topics you would like to see covered in the future.

I upload at least 2 to 3 times a week so be sure to subscribe to get notified about new videos as they are released.  I will be bringing my Live Streams back to Youtube as I wasn't too impressed with Twitch's platform. It seemed very glitchy and I think it better for gamers than art videos. IMO.
I believe it will be better to keep all my uploads on Youtube for now and sharing some premium content through my Patreon.

In this video I am using Sketchbook Pro 8 and a Wacom Cintiq to draw with.  I don't talk at all about the program in this one because I want it to be helpful for traditional artists as well.

Thanks for stopping by and good luck with your art! :)

Digital Painting Tutorial in Procreate on the iPad Pro

Here is a video tutorial where I show you a few tips on digitally painting with Procreate on an iPad Pro. I am using the Apple Pencil but this is a screen capture so you won't see that here.  But I do go over the process that I am using to create my digital painting in this awesome app.  It is great for drawing and painting on the go!

This is a fan art piece of the Demon Hunter Girl from Diablo 3. This is a work in progress but I wanted to share the process with you.  I hope you enjoy the work and let me know if you have any questions about this video!

This was drawn on the iPad Pro using Procreate and the Apple Pencil.

How to Draw and Paint a Woman's Face in Photoshop - Video Tutorial Set

Here is my next lesson on my Gumroad Page -

In this Video Tutorial Set you will learn How I Draw and Digitally Paint a woman's face.  This is a Step by Step narrated process.  This video is 3.25 hours long from start to finish and it is all in Real Time.  You also get the custom brushes that I used to create this painting and the PSD file with layers to study and work along with.

I go over many techniques in this tutorial such as using Layers and Groups to organize your painting.  Pressure settings of your brushes and what to be aware of when using them. How to adjust parts of your painting instead of starting over.  How to use the Liquify tool to fix areas of your work.  When to use the quick mask feature.  How to blend paint with the soft brush.  How to control saturation of parts of your image and much more!

The main take away with this lesson is that you can fix a bad image and keep pressing forward.  The start of this drawing was less than perfect but I kept with it and was able to turn it into a decent work of art.  I hope that you can learn from that experience and spend more time finishing your works and not throwing then in the recycling bin!

If you have any questions.  Feel free to ask and thank you for supporting my work and good luck with yours!

Learn How to Digitally Paint Deadpool in Photoshop CC - Video Tutorial Set by Robert A. Marzullo

I just created a Photoshop CC Video Tutorial Set on How to Digitally the Paint the Merc with a Mouth on my Gumroad here - https://gum.co/oaurL  You get the real time video at 3.25 hours long ( No Audio ) You also get the Tutorial version that I narrate the process at 3X the speed.  ( With the full Photoshop workspace )
You also get the custom Photoshop brushes that I used to create this piece along with the PSD files and layers to study from.

So this should be a fun work along if you have ever wondered how to digitally paint something like this.  I show you how I create and blend textures into the piece and how I modify the artwork as I am painting.  Keep in mind that I don't start with a drawing of this one like I would normally do.  I went straight to paint and it is actually a pretty fun process!

If you get this tutorial and have any questions then please feel free to contact me through my Youtube channel or by email at rob@robertmarzullo.com and I will do my best to shed some light on whatever problems you might be having.

Thank you for your support and Happy Painting!

Let's Draw Together Series by RAM - 001 Barbarian Part 1

So I have started a new series with my art and my Youtube channel. If you watched the Let's Create a Superhero then it kind of works like that but a little bit different. This one is where I start a sketch and you get to watch the entire process while I narrate and then you offer ideas on where I should take the artwork next. I then incorporate the ideas that I think make the piece better and we progress from there. It should be fun so I hope you will participate. The starting sketch is the Barbarian that I just posted. You can watch the speed drawing here if you like.....

Make sure to leave a comment and let me know what you think and what you would like to see in the future. I take video requests when I can.

Thanks for watching and keep drawing and keep having fun!

FREE Course on Drawing Faces in Sketchbook Pro - Udemy

This course is now FREE on Udemy for a limited time.  I am getting ready to release a new course on Figure Drawing so I am making this one free to let people try my teaching style and see if they are interested or not.  Then hopefully they stick with me for all the other courses I will be producing.  So let me know what you think of this course and if you find value in it then please leave an honest review.  I would like to know if I did a good job with this one.  I believe the course on figure drawing will be a big hit.  I am covering lots of great topics that will help people that struggle with the human figure.  It will include breaking down the forms to basic shapes, foreshortening, and drawing the form in action.

This course will show you how to draw the male and female face from start to finish using Sketchbook Pro 8.  From the rough lines all the way to colors.  Using layers, brushes, blending modes, and more.  I hope you enjoy it and please share this link if you know anyone that might be interested.

Tips for Working on Your Comic in Manga Studio 5 - Narrated by Robert A....

This weeks video is on Tips for Working on Your Comic in Manga Studio 5.  I am back on the Blackstone comic so I wanted to give you an inside look on how I draw through some of these panels and hopefully help you with your own process of drawing in Manga Studio 5 / Clip Studio Paint.  This program makes drawing comics much easier and organizes your work nicely.  I know majority of artist probably still like to do their work traditionally and there is nothing wrong with that but for someone like me who does the entire project from start to finish the time savings is very valuable.

I am trying to get this book done and to print and digital upload in the next month or two.  It is sad that these books take me so long but every time I get a nice stride going work starts to pile up.  And since I have to work on other projects to fund the Blackstone comic, that is just the way the cookie crumbles.  I am not complaining though.  Mainly just explaining to my readers out there while these things take me so darn long to produce.  Maybe one day I can work on this book full time but until then this will have to do.  Thanks for watching and you can get a copy of my comic and other digital content on my gumroad page in the link below.

Digital Painting in Manga Studio 5 EX / Clip Studio Paint Pro - Lesson 1 by Robert A. Marzullo

Here is Lesson 1 of 6 in my course on Digital Painting in Manga Studio 5 EX / Clip Studio Paint Pro.  I begin this course with basic elements and work up to full landscapes and finally a character design.  This way by the end of this course you will have a full understanding of how to paint everything that goes into a scene and also how to break things down into easier to understand components.  Each lesson in this course will be $5 but some will range from 45 minutes up to couple of hours long.  So this will be packed with lots of great information about the program and it capabilities.  If you have any questions you can reach out to me at rob@robertmarzullo.com and I will gladly answer your questions for supporting my courses.  This is also streamable in full HD so you can clearly see all of the things that I am doing in this program.

In this lesson we will create the rock formation that you see above.  We start by creating the shape and then add in digital paint effects over top with layers and blending modes.  I show you how the various brushes can be used and how the blending modes work with the brushes as well.  This first video is a basic approach but it can be used for all sorts of conceptual elements when painting.

Keep in mind I am using Manga Studio 5 EX and I am also using a Wacom Cintiq  to create this artwork.  You can use any tablet you prefer but I want you to be aware of my setup.  You also get a high resolution copy of the artwork from each course and any custom brushes I make during this production.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the course!

How to Make Changes to Your Digital Paintings in Photoshop

This video is on making changes to your digital paintings while creating them inside of Photoshop.  This should help you better understand how to make incremental adjustments to your work so you don't get frustrated and give up.  Digital paintings can and should always move forward.  There are just too many ways to fix your work to throw it in the digital garbage can.

In this video I go over the transform tool, the quick mask, the liquify tool, the pen and path tool, and how to better use layers to test and edit your work.  I also show you a few tips with the brushes that I use to modify my paintings.  If you find this helpful with your art then please share it.  Be on the lookout for my new brushes that I am using in this video.   They will be on my Gumroad page in the next few days!

Lets Make a Superhero - Step by Step - Part 3 - Manga Studio 5

So here is Part 3 of "Let's Make a Superhero!"  This was one of my first series and it wasn't as easy as I thought so I have lots of things to improve but it was fun to do.  This was basically a work along with the subscribers to the channel.  They gave comments and ideas and I had to composite them together into this singular perspective that has now been named......wait for it........THRUSTER! lol.

Maybe not the most impressive of names and probably already been used once or twice but this was for the experimentation and learning process.  It is always exciting to get feedback from viewers and see what can be done with it.  It also allowed me to see some real flaws in my own work and process.  My proportions are off and my character design is stiff.  But now that I have spotted the problem it is time to fix it.  So lots of long hours ahead of me and time to study some of the greats and why they are great!

I just want to say thanks for everyone that participated in this project.  It took me a bit longer to produce than I hoped.  Life always seems to get in the way.  The next one will be quicker and more polished.  I already have requests to do a Super Villain so maybe we will cover that topic next!

Can't wait to see how that one goes! :)

Thanks for stopping by and keep up the good fight!

How to Draw A Superhero Mask - In Sketchbook Pro 8

So I recently had a video request on my Youtube channel to show how I would draw a superhero mask on a character.  So I took this character and added two different mask styles over top.  Excuse any resemblance of the characters.  I merely wanted to go with a very traditional style to make it easier for people to follow along.  So here are the sketches and the video link is below.  Let me know if you find it helpful and also what types of videos you would like to see on my channel in the future.  I mainly do comic book art but also dabble in the digital painting arena as well.  I'll be honest, as long as I am creating art then I am pretty freaking happy!

Thanks for watching and/or reading and more on the way real soon.  God willing of course! ;)

How to Draw Shadows on Comic Book Faces by Robert A. Marzullo

Hello fellow comic artist.  Just wanted to share my latest work with you.  Practicing shadows once again.  Never can get enough of this.  I have always struggled with adding the right amount of shadows to my work.  Especially in the faces.  So easy to either do it incorrectly or just add way too much on a certain area.  So its practice, practice, and more practice.  One day I will get there.  I hope!  And if I do not at least I am having fun trying to get there.  It is all about the journey!

You can watch the video here and be sure to let me know what you think and what you would like to see in the future!

How to Draw a City in a 2 Point Perspective Using Sketchbook Pro 7

Here is a video I should have done a while ago but better late than never, right?  This one is on how to draw a city in a two point perspective.  I used Sketchbook Pro 7 and its pretty awesome perspective rulers to complete the task but you should be able to do this with traditional methods as well.  Of course you could use Manga Studio 5 which also has some pretty cool perspective rulers.  So what's up with the Adobe guys???  Hurry up and add some perspective tools already!

So if you have every struggled drawing a city then hopefully this one will help you.  I tried to keep it basic and easy to follow.  Let me know what you think of it and if you have any questions, then I am all ears.  I will try to do some more variations of this type of video.  Worms eye view of a city or a 3 Point Perspective might be fun to do as well.  Futuristic city scape on an alien world.  Now that sounds like fun!! ( Man, I am such a nerd..... :>/ )

So at any rate, I hope you enjoy this video and more on the way very soon.

You can watch it here.......https://youtu.be/SUsH8DBIlro

Good luck with your art!!
