These are a variety of creature design elements that you can put together, draw over, or simply use as reference to create all sorts of awesome monster art concepts.

How to Make Custom Brushes in Manga Studio 5 - Clip Studio Paint

How to Make a Custom Brush in Manga Studio 5                  Clip Studio Paint

Custom Brushes in Manga Studio 5 Image Alien Metal

I have been asked many times how I create custom brushes in this program so here it is. The software is a lot like Photoshop in the way that the brushes work but the interface is very different. Like anything else you just have to snoop around and find what goes where. One of the neat things about the brushes in Manga Studio 5 is that you can apply color to them as they are being applied. And not just one color but you can control the two colors that go into the design. That makes for some very interesting effects. Like the illustration above I was able to apple the blue of the steel along with the black of the inner shadows at the same time. ( Illustration on the left ) And the one on the right was similar but I applied the green glow as a post processing effect by drawing it in with a layer set to "Color Dodge."

These brushes were created using the ribbon effect in Manga Studio and if is very impressive once you get the hang of it.  Things like chains, rope, braids, alien tech metal spine looking thingies, whatever you can dream up becomes a lot easier to create. You spend some initial time creating the brush but after that you will save tons of time so it is well worth the effort.

If you want to know more then watch this video tutorial where I narrate the process step by step. If you have any questions or requests then feel free to ask. I am here to help! :)

Custom Brushes for Clip Studio Paint Pro / Manga Studio 5 - 50 Digital Painting Textures and Efffects

Hello Everyone!  I just wanted to put the word out that I am in the middle of a new brush set.  These are for the amazing program Clip Studio Paint Pro A.K.A. Manga Studio 5.  I was asked to do this set a while ago and like always, stuff ( meaning work ) seems to get in the way.  But now I am finally here and enjoying the process entirely.

The brush engine in Clip Studio Paint is fantastic.  It really gives you the most freedom to create amazing brushes that really do work.  So far with this brush pack I have been able to create some real winners that I can honestly say I will be using quite a bit.  Here are some of the brushes that will be in this 50 pack - Foliage brushes, power effects, fur brush, hair brush, tree bark, reptile skin, rock textures, cloud brush, rain, lightning, monster teeth, water effects and many more.  Along with some background patterns like hexagons and carbon fiber.

This set will help to save lots of time on various textures.  You will still need to add your own style  over top of these effects and these are not meant to replace your art as much as they are to help you grow and learn while creating.  I have already gotten lots of great feedback from other artists on this set and I will do my best to get your ideas in here if I can.

Keep in mind that right now you can get this set for $4 as a pre-release option.  There are currently 8 brushes available for download right now and more on the way.  The rest will be finished by the end of November and new ones are uploaded daily for you to start playing around with.  By buying it now you  get access to the brushes as they are created but when the full set of 50 brushes goes live the price will increase to $8.  But you will be locked in by buying early and get access to all updates to this set for free.

Here are some of the brushes and effects that are already ready to go....

This image was created using the hair, fur, and magic brush.

There are currently 8 brushes ready to use and counting.....

You can get your copy here - Gumroad Link -

You can watch a video of the foliage and nebula power brush being demonstrated here -

I thank you for stopping by and appreciate your support of my work.  It helps me to keep creating new brushes and new artwork.  For that I am eternally grateful!!

New Gumroad Page - http://www.gumroad.com/ramstudioscomics

Quick update for everyone who might visit my Gumroad page.  I had to create a secondary page for my FREE products.  A few of these were getting downloaded so much my bill was increasing and I really can't afford it right now.  But this may work out better for everyone.  I can keep creating free items and sharing my content while still gaining tips or Pay What You Want type contributions.

So just to clarify - If you don't want to pay anything you simply hit 0 during the checkout process.  The + is jut there for people that want to help me keep making new content.  That is it!  Right now you can get my comic page template, my Procreate Brushes, my Basic Photoshop Paint Set, and my PS Patterns download.  There are more things I am working on now and you are always welcome to contribute ideas on what you would like to see in the future.

Keep in mind that my paid Gumroad is still in place for my students and supporters at
http://www.gumroad.com/robertmarzullo

I also lowered the price on some of the lessons to hopefully make it more accessible for everyone.

How to Draw and Paint a Woman's Face in Photoshop - Video Tutorial Set

Here is my next lesson on my Gumroad Page -

In this Video Tutorial Set you will learn How I Draw and Digitally Paint a woman's face.  This is a Step by Step narrated process.  This video is 3.25 hours long from start to finish and it is all in Real Time.  You also get the custom brushes that I used to create this painting and the PSD file with layers to study and work along with.

I go over many techniques in this tutorial such as using Layers and Groups to organize your painting.  Pressure settings of your brushes and what to be aware of when using them. How to adjust parts of your painting instead of starting over.  How to use the Liquify tool to fix areas of your work.  When to use the quick mask feature.  How to blend paint with the soft brush.  How to control saturation of parts of your image and much more!

The main take away with this lesson is that you can fix a bad image and keep pressing forward.  The start of this drawing was less than perfect but I kept with it and was able to turn it into a decent work of art.  I hope that you can learn from that experience and spend more time finishing your works and not throwing then in the recycling bin!

If you have any questions.  Feel free to ask and thank you for supporting my work and good luck with yours!

Discount Offer Code on my Gumroad Page - 50% OFF

First off if you are reading this and you are someone that has already been to my Gumroad store and purchased something, Thank You! It has really helped me to continue drawing, painting, and creating tutorials which I love to do. I am not saying it pays all my bills but it sure doesn't hurt. I have been able to justify spending the time that I do on Youtube making videos and replying to comments. ( Which takes lots of hours to do by the way. But I enjoy it! ) I like to help out when I can. It also has given me a guide on what is wanted and what is not.  Youtube does that for me as well but not in the same regard. As you know we will all watch something for free and sometimes we will catch ourselves watching something we don't even particular enjoy or care about.  Just zoning out on the boob tube I guess.  But, when it is something you pay for then you are much more likely to be committed to it.  You probably wouldn't spend the money otherwise.  So it really shows me what people are after when  they take my video tutorials or a full course.  Which is great because I need that direction some times.  Sitting in a basement studio thinking up ideas can be fun but it can also be mind boggling at times.  What thing shall I teach today in this infinite vastness that is art and comics?  Should I do yet another video tutorial on How to Draw an Eye?  Or should it be a full course on How to Draw an Eye on a Six Legged Winged Spawn from the Planet Nectar?  I would think the first idea would be more popular than the later but what do I know.  Maybe there is a niche in the market for the weird and absurd.  So Gumroad helps me to see that and you as the viewer help me to know that.

So here is my way to say thanks
When checking out anything at my store use the offer code -  50percentoffnow

And you will see the items get marked down to half.  And, follow me on Gumroad and get future deals.  I will be giving special offers to repeat customers.

Take care and good luck with your art!

My Custom Brush Set for Digital Painting in Photoshop

In this video I show the brush set I use for digital painting and then share some of the techniques I use to work with these brushes.  I have condensed my brush set down to the bare minimal and by doing so it saves me a lot of time from searching through some large list of brushes.  And it forces me to focus more on painting techniques versus brushes to create the effects for me.

Let me know what you think of the video and you can follow the link below to download my brush set for free.  I hope you enjoy them!

Thanks for watching and more on the way real soon!
